School's event to benefit Science Olympiad team
Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School, 1800 S. Kolb Road, will host a silent auction and spaghetti dinner at the school 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The proceeds will benefit the school's Science Olympiad team. For more information, call 747-1027.
Festivities to raise money to prevent child abuse
A dinner, silent and live auctions and prize drawings will be among the festivities Saturday at Parent Aid's 16th Annual We Care: Wings Around the World Benefit, an event that raises money to help prevent child abuse.
The benefit will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Pima Air and Space Museum, 6000 E. Valencia Road.
The reigning 2007 Mrs. World — Tucsonan Diane Tucker — will emcee the event, a media release said.
Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling Parent Aid Executive Director Sean Young at 798-3304.

Poker run to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation
The 2008 Ride for Wishes, a poker run in which participants collect poker hands along the way, will take place Sunday to collect money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona.
Motorcyclists, car enthusiasts and other participants will start at 11 a.m. at Pair-A-Dice Barbers, 7752 E. Wrightstown Road, a media release said.
They will go on a five-stop journey — drawing a poker card and collecting a stamp for it at each one — until they end at Montgomery's Grill And Saloon, 13190 E. Colossal Cave Road, where there will be live music and food, the release said.
Registration costs $20 per rider and will take place 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the day of the ride at Pair-A-Dice. Registrants will eat free at a pancake breakfast during registration.
The ride will be held in memory of Trever Peck, who died of cancer in 2004 at age 5.

Lecture on Hubble is set
Astronomer, researcher and author Chris Impey will give a free lecture under the stars from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Pima Community College's East Campus Observatory Ramada, 8181 E. Irvington Road.
Impey, who is the deputy head of the University of Arizona's Department of Astronomy, will talk about the Hubble Space Telescope's contributions to different scientific fields, a media release said.
He is a former vice president of the American Astronomical Society.

Sycamore school to host community fair May 2
Sycamore Elementary School, 16701 S. Houghton Road, will host its annual community fair from 5 to 9 p.m. May 2.
The event will feature rides, games, prizes, food vendors and a classic car show. Fair organizers also are looking for volunteers.
