The Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona is reminding consumers that there's no need to pay to find out whether a state is holding your unclaimed property, amid ongoing solicitations by a company offering to search for unclaimed property in Nevada.
Southern Arizona consumers are reporting phone calls from a Nevada company, Asset Recovery Center, claiming they can assist with recovering unclaimed property in that state for a fee of $35, the Better Business Bureau said.
The urgent-sounding message left by the company informs consumers they have unclaimed property in Nevada.
But Nevada, like Arizona and other states, provide information on unclaimed property without any fees.
The BBB tracked Asset Recovery Center to a mail drop in Henderson, Nev. The company has not responded to bureau inquiries.
The Nevada Office of the State Treasurer has a Web site at which consumers can search for unclaimed property nevadatreasurer.gov. Consumers can also call the treasurer's office at 702-486-4140 to request a claim form.
In Arizona, you can search for unclaimed property on the state Department of Revenue Web site at www.azunclaimed.gov.
