A U.S. Customs and Border Protection pilot accidentally shot another person Monday afternoon inside an air operations building, an official said.
The shooting occurred at the Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations building at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base shortly after 3 p.m., said Rob Daniels, a spokesman for the Border Patrol, which is part of Customs and Border Protection.
The person shot was a contract employee with Customs and Border Protection, Daniels said. CBP is part of the Department of Homeland Security.
The employee was taken by ambulance to a Tucson hospital. He was treated and released by 6 p.m., Daniels said.
Names were not released Monday.
Daniels said the circumstances surrounding the accidental shooting are being investigated. He acknowledged that it's not uncommon to take off one's holster and gun for various reasons.
The Tucson Police Department unit is handling the shooting investigation, he said.
Tucson police declined to comment on the incident Monday, saying that all inquiries were being addressed by Customs and Border Protection.
No other information was available late Monday.
