While two lightning-caused fires were contained on Mount Lemmon Saturday evening, another was sparked near Kitt Peak National Observatory.
The Alhambre Fire, which is burning south of Kitt Peak in the Baboquivari Mountains, was reported at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
By Saturday evening, it had burned about 250 acres but no structures were threatened and the blaze was burning away from the observatory, officials said.
One hotshot crew, two hand crews from the Arizona Department of Corrections, another hand crew from the Coronado National Forest, four small air tankers and one large air tanker were being used to fight the fire.
The observatory was evacuated as a precaution Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, by 7 p.m., officials had the two fires that were burning just east of the Molino Basin campground in the Santa Catalina Mountains fully contained.
The blazes, which burned 53 acres on hilltops, were reported around 4 p.m. Friday — the same time thunderstorms rolled through the area, said Heidi Schewel, a spokeswoman for the Coronado National Forest.
No one had to be evacuated from the campground as it is closed for the summer but the Pima County Sheriff's Department did have to shut down the roadway to everyone except residents for several hours, she said.
By Saturday evening, Tucson Electric Power completed storm-related cleanup that included downed power lines, broken poles and outages across the city, said Joe Barrios a TEP spokesman.
