Pre-war Germany experienced a gradual decline of civil rights and personal freedoms. A little-known incompetent became that country's leader, along with a cadre of evil and self-important psychopaths. The following years brought that country war in the name of spreading Nazi domination over the globe. Are we experiencing the same thing in this country 65 years later? Our liberties and protections are being gradually eroded in the name of national security.
Both President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be impeached for the atrocities they have imposed, the freedoms they have usurped, the future they have tarnished and the loss of respect America is experiencing throughout the world. The Bush/Cheney administration has done irreparable harm to America. Impeachment is never pretty or easy. The Democratic majority would like this issue to go away as well. But for the good of the country, initiate impeachment proceedings, at least against Cheney.

In response to the June 23 article "Mamma mia! Garlic bashers want pungent herb out of Italian food."
I loved the article in Saturday's Star regarding garlic in Italian food. I can relate to Carlo Rossella, a newsman in Italy, who is allergic to garlic. I have the same allergy, yet I love Italian cooking. I'm also sensitive to onions and peppers. Trying to find food in Tucson restaurants without these ubiquitous ingredients is a difficult task.
A plea to Tucson restaurant owners: Please include menu items without garlic or peppers for those of us with this problem.

David Fitzsimmons' June 24 cartoon on the Interstate 10 work and its perils brings to mind "The M.T.A. Song," also known as "Charley on the M.T.A," popularized by the Kingston Trio in 1959, with an edit to suit our situation.
Did he ever return,
No he never returned
And his fate is still unlearn'd
He may be stuck forever
At the Speedway exit
He's the man who never returned.

In response to the June 26 article "D-M again raises jets' altitude to quell noise."
Close Davis-Monthan now. I know that it was here first and is a very important economic engine for Tucson. It is just not practical or safe to have a large Air Force base in the middle of a metropolitan area.
I say move it 30-40 miles west of Tucson. I know it will have the same problem 30-40 years from now, but so be it. Every other base closing did not bring the ruin predicted. Many became research parks, etc. I am not anti-patriotic. I am anti-noise.
