Head to Payson for the Spring Rodeo
The Gary Hardt Memorial Spring Rodeo May 17-19 in Payson will feature women's barrel racing, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) events, a fundraiser for local breast cancer groups and the annual Miss Rodeo Arizona Pageant.
Thursday's activities will include the Women's Cactus Series Barrel Racing. Admission is a can of food for the food bank.
Friday and Saturday will be filled with ongoing rodeo events. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with activities beginning at 7 each night at the Payson Multi-Event Center, 75 minutes north of Scottsdale off Arizona 87.
Friday will be the "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" night hosted by the Payson Rodeo Committee, which will donate $3 for each contestant and $1 for each spectator who wears pink, to a Payson breast cancer support group and the Arizona Institute for Breast Health.
Events for the Miss Rodeo Arizona will include a horsemanship competition at 1 p.m. Friday at the rodeo grounds. Other pageant activities will take place at the Tonto Apache Activity Center, where Miss Rodeo Arizona 2007 will be crowned 9 a.m. Sunday.

Traditional Celtic, Scottish games
The Prescott Highland Games will take place May 19 at Watson Lake Park in Prescott and will feature kilt-clad athletes competing in traditional Scottish and Celtic games, and children's activities and live music.
Starting with opening ceremonies, the day will continue with competitions while groups such as Cummings Celtic Duo, the Glendale Police Pipes & Drums, Irish dancers and bagpipers perform on three stages.
Gates will open at 9 a.m., events will begin at 10, and closing ceremony and awards will be presented around 5 p.m.
Tickets cost $10, with discounts available for seniors and students. Children 6 and younger are free.
