Tucson police are looking for a stolen Humane Society van that had two dogs and a 3-month-old puppy inside, officials said Friday night.
The van, which had blue Humane Society of Southern Arizona logos all over it, was stolen from the parking lot of an East Side PetSmart Friday at about 5:30 p.m., said Jill Wohlfiel, community relations manager for the agency.
An adoption counselor was at the store, at 7727 E. Broadway, picking up animals and had just loaded a shepherd mix, a chow mix and the labrador puppy in to the 2004 silver Chevrolet van when he went back inside to pick up some cats, she said.
The van was locked and left running to keep the animals warm, but when the man came back outside, he found broken glass on the ground and the van gone.
"Our main concern is getting the animals back safely," Wohlfiel said. "We are worried that they might be destructive to the animals or abandon them somewhere."
The dogs were wearing white plastic collars that have six-digit identification numbers, she said. The van's Arizona license plate number is C1153.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
