City officials have been saying for years that Rio Nuevo progress is right around the corner. Last week, Councilwoman Nina Trasoff said citizens will finally see that progress in 2007 when four construction cranes will be visible Downtown.
So who, what, when and where?
Trasoff said the four sites she was talking about are: the revitalization of the former Martin Luther King Jr. housing project, a mixed-use retail and condominium called The Post to be built be developer Don Bourn, a mixed-use condo and retail development called Presidio Terrace and the reconstruction of a new Fourth Avenue underpass.
Trasoff said "cranes" was a metaphor for tangible activity, but added The Post, Presidio Terrace and maybe the MLK rehab will use cranes.
Rio Nuevo Director Greg Shelko said the Fourth Avenue underpass and the MLK rehab are definitely coming next year, while the Post and Presidio Terrace will depend on the market interest in condos. He said he's confident the interest will be there.
Presidio Terrace Developer Peggy Noonan said pre-sales of condos are going well, noting she has 20 commitments out of the 30 she needs to satisfy her development agreement with the city.
