Salud Spa Bar offers you whole new way to indulge

You don't have to be Britney Spears or Paris Hilton to design a signature perfume.
At Salud Spa Bar you can mix your own scent, as well as body lotion, body wash and other feel-good products.
The new "spa bar" concept is the relaxed, soothing spa retreat you crave — but requires less of your time and cash and more of your creativity.
Walk through the double glass doors on East University Boulevard and become seduced by a waft of sweet scents.
Belly up to the bar and owner Kelly Podorsek will help you mix your signature scent, then apply it to perfume ($18-$39), organic body wash ($11), organic lotion ($13), body mist ($11) or even body scrub ($18).
The beauty bar boasts more than 70 scents, including tasty treats such as dark chocolate and vanilla bean, sexy musk and sweet florals like rose and jasmine.
On a recent trip we chose to add Rose and Bubble Bath scented oils to organic lotion to create a fresh, baby-soft scent.
"You can create a name and call it whatever you want. We attach a recipe to the bottle so you can remember what you mixed and make it again," Podorsek said.
We called ours Baby Blend.
"The interactive and experiential process is really what the Generation Y group looks for. They grew up on the Internet and with customization," said Podorsek, adding that many of her customers are University of Arizona students and faculty.
If you're looking for an on-the-spot treatment, try a "simple ritual" and concoct your own face mask ($14) or foot soak ($16 ).
The face mask treatment is a tapas-style dish with a cleanser, customized mask and a moisturizer. Four types of clay for different complexions can be mixed with Vitamin E, lavender, peppermint or oatmeal to form a mask that will best treat your skin's condition.
Apply your own mask in the soothing relaxation room — complete with lounge chairs, cucumber water and a trickling fountain. Afterward, come back out into the store for a quick dusting of SPF 20 mineral makeup — that way you can squeeze your treatment into your day and walk out with a freshly made-up face, Podorsek said. The whole luxurious experience, from cleanser to makeup, is included in the $14 cost.
It's a quickie version of the 60- to 90-minute facial many women covet. This is the first Salud Spa Bar that former Los Angeles-resident Podorsek has opened, although she hopes to expand to Scottsdale and Mexico City.
"Tucson is the spa capital of the world. If my concept can work here, I know it can work anywhere," Podorsek said.
