My iPod battery frequently runs down when I'm out and about. The Kensington RDS FM Transmitter/Car Charger is a nice addition to my collection of adapters because it can charge my iPod while it's plugged into the car lighter.
On top of that, the transmitter song and artist information can be transmitted from the iPod to the display of the car radio. And you can play your iPod on the car stereo while it's plugged into the charger, using Kensington's ClearFM technology. In a short drive to the gym, it's enough to wake up a battery-dead iPod long enough to last for a workout.
The car radio must be enabled with radio data system (RDS) technology, which normally allows an FM radio broadcaster to send text messages on an FM sub-frequency. Kensington estimates 80 percent of new cars have RDS-enabled radios. The device sells for $89.99 retail and is available at Apple, Best Buy and CompUSA stores, as well as online at Amazon, Buy.com and Kensington.com.
