Authorities arrested 81 people during the weekend as part of the Southern Arizona DUI task force's Labor Day deployment.
The task force deployed 46 officers between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. on saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The task force arrested 62 on the first two days, according to a news release, including:
● 16 people under 21 on suspicion of DUI.
● Nine on suspicion of extreme DUI with a blood-alcohol content above 0.15 percent.
● One felony DUI.
On Sunday, an additional 19 were arrested on suspicion of DUI, including six younger than 21. Another six were arrested on suspicion of extreme DUI.
Police issued 48 seat-belt citations and 96 speeding citations throughout the weekend. Only one DUI-related collision was reported, the release said. Officers made a total of 2,872 stops.
Last year, the task force arrested 103 people over the weekend.
The deployment was dedicated to Arizona Department of Public Safety Sgt. John Blaser and Officer David Gabrielli, who were killed on duty by a drunken driver in 1990; and to Scott Karl Hogg, who was killed by a drunken driver in 1992 at age 25.
In Cochise County, another task force arrested 25 people on suspicion of DUI-related offenses during a two-day deployment.
