PHOENIX — Arizona TV viewers are going to be seeing more of three gubernatorial candidates in the coming week than they have all campaign.
The incumbent and two of the challengers who qualified for public financing of their campaigns each got $453,849 for the primary. That includes Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano, even though she doesn't have a primary foe.
Rules established by the Citizens Clean Elections Commission require all of that primary cash to be spent by Sept. 12.
Republican Len Munsil, who qualified for public financing in early May, is planning to air a 60-second commercial this week at a cost of $220,000. The ad cost $10,000 to produce, said his campaign manager, Sean Noble.
Republican Don Goldwater, who is getting his check from the Clean Elections Commission on Tuesday, said he isn't sure how much of that $453,849 he will spend on TV time.
Napolitano is bringing out two 60-second TV commercials this week. Campaign publicist Jeanine L'Ecuyer said they cost $65,000 to produce; the TV time is costing $220,000.
