People posing as Tucson Water employees tried to get inside homes in Midvale Park Tuesday night.
In each case the individuals told residents that their tap water was contaminated and asked to come inside, according to a Tucson Water news release.
Police are investigating and it wasn't known whether the incidents were related to the theft of Tucson Water uniforms from an employee's home last week.
In that theft, 15 to 20 light-blue uniform shirts bearing the Tucson Water logo were stolen.
Tucson Water employees rarely have to talk to a customer without a previous appointment, and the department doesn't conduct water quality tests inside homes without prior consent, the release said.
Most water testing can be conducted at a water meter and employees rarely need to go inside homes.
Department employees also drive marked city vehicles and are required to display a city-issued identification cards, the release said.
If you are approached by someone claiming to be from Tucson Water and they don't have proper ID, don't let them in, the release said.
Residents should call Tucson Water at 791-4331 to report the individuals or call 911 if they feel threatened.
