Laughter's the medicine, and a team of local comics is setting out to prove that theory with "Tucson Laughs Away Pain" Monday night at Gaslight Theatre.
LaughMagic Productions & Eb Wilkinson are behind the fund-raising event, which features a cast of local comedians starring Tom Potter and David "Fitz" Fitzsimmons, the Star's editorial cartoonist.
Others featured include comic magician Norm Marini, the improv troupe Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed, comic/ journalist Lorrie Cohen and actor/comic David Fanning doing his Kneel Diamond & Phat Elvis routines.
Tickets cost $25 and all proceeds benefit Chronic Pain Life, a new national nonprofit organization that provides support to those affected by chronic pain. The group was started by Potter's daughter, Amy, who has suffered from chronic back pain since a 1998 weightlifting accident. She has undergone six surgeries, had five diagnoses and has a neuron-stimulator implanted in her upper spine with a battery in her upper hip, according to press materials.
Chronic Pain is based locally but is spreading its wings nationally in hopes of offering support services and funding for research into chronic pain.
The laughs start at 7 p.m. Monday at Gaslight Theatre, 7010 E. Broadway. For tickets, call 886-9428.
