Cactus Quill honors Pender
At the fifth annual Cactus Quill Awards, Steve Pender of Family Legacy Video received an award of excellence for his monthly newsletter, and an award of merit for the Family Legacy Web site, www.familylegacyvideo.com
Retallick also gets award
Martha Retallick received an award of excellence in the 2006 Cactus Quills competition for her postcard marketing campaign. Retallick is owner of Western Sky Communications.
New board for diabetes group
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Southern Arizona Branch board of directors has elected new members. They are Virginia Anderson, Mark Lindsey, Sally Marchalonis, Moses Perez, Rosi Vogel, and Kevin Wood.
New Rotary club names officers
The newly chartered Pima Rotary Club has named officers for the club. Andrew Avella is president, Veanne Lupia is president-elect, Mona McCane is vice president, Amber Scott is sergeant at arms, Keisha Vieux is secretary, and Shari Watson is treasurer.
Neuman, Ozeri gain positions
At the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona Jerry Neuman was appointed president of the 2006-2007 board of trustees. New officers and board members were also elected.
Also at the foundation, Nancy Ben-Asher Ozeri was named director of communications. She has a bachelor's in journalism from Northwestern University and moved to Israel in 1986 and worked as an editor for several publications. She returned to Tucson in 2002 and served as vice president of AcuComm Inc. before joining the foundation.
Michael heads smoker help line
Stephen Michael was appointed director of the Arizona Smokers' Helpline, based at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. Michael is a graduate of UA and is a licensed substance abuse counselor.
Golden Eagle promotes Silva
Sue Silva was promoted to vice president of information technology for Golden Eagle Distributors Inc. She began her career with the company 21 years ago as a programmer/analyst.
State bar honors Green
Patricia A. Green received the committee on minorities and women in the law award from the State Bar of Arizona. Green practices family and appellate law with the firm of Waterfall Economidis Caldwell Hanshaw & Villamana PC.
Hotel manager rookie of year
Stacy Brindise, general manager for the Hampton Inn at 1375 W. Grant Road, was awarded the 2005 ZMC Hotels rookie of the year award during a managers' conference in Duluth, Minn. Brindise has worked for ZMC Hotels for more than four years.
Schacht joins Collision agency
Jordan Schacht has joined 911 Collision Centers as director of marketing. He has a background in sales and marketing, including 18 years in the insurance industry in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Tucson. Schacht serves as chairman on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson.
Oschmann gives positions to 3
Oschmann Employee Screening Services has named three new employees. Christy Marquez is a certified drug and alcohol testing collector and medical review officer assistant; Steven Reed is a certified drug and alcohol testing collector and mobile on-site testing specialist; Eileen Kane is an accounting clerk. Lori Oschmann continues in her role as programs manager and will also take on sales and marketing for the company.
Habitat's new deputy director
Daniel Knee was named deputy director for Habitat for Humanity Tucson. He has more than 10 years of experience and previously worked for the Tucson Urban League.
Five new members were also named to the board. They are Ericka Cureses, Ron Gardin, Jason Ott, Vicki Pepper, and Zaira Sotelo.
