Arizona Daily Star Battle of the Bands

Sponsors ensure everyone wins

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 02.09.2006
Everyone at the Arizona Daily Star Battle of the Bands — from the winning band to the audience — will take home prizes thanks to the sponsors.
Each member of the winning band will receive a 512-megabyte Apple iPod Shuffle and a Maxell DVD of their song and music video made on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. The bus staff will premiere the video at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Apple Store in La Encantada shopping center.
The winning band also receives a Roland Cube-60 Guitar Amp; 1,000 custom compact discs with full-color jackets and three-color on-disc printing from Disc Makers; hats and T-shirts from www.themusicedge.com; and a Maxell prize package for each band member that includes CDRs, AA batteries and Disc Wipes. The winner also takes home the backline stage equipment used at the battle thanks to Crate Amplifiers; Tama Drums, Hardware and Accessories; and Tucson's Guitar Center, which is hosting the bus Saturday while the band is on board recording.
Battle judge Don Jennings will feature the winning band on KXCI's (91.3-FM) "Locals Only" radio show 8-10 p.m. Feb. 20.
The winning band also will receive free entry into the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest for Teens and the National Battle of the Bands competition.
The high school the winning band represents will receive Apple's Logic Pro 7 music production software, Sibelius' G7 music notation software for guitars, and Elixir Strings for guitar.
The second-place band isn't going home empty-handed: It will win 10 hours of studio time from the Basement Recording Studio.
All seven finalists will get T-shirts from themusicedge.com Web site.
The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is holding a raffle at the Battle of the Bands, and anyone can register to take home a free 512-megabyte Apple iPod Shuffle. The randomly drawn winner will be announced before the battle results are given.
Audience members also can pick up free gift bags that include a Guitar Player magazine, a contest newsletter, two blank rewritable Maxell CDs, Sibelius demo CDs, batteries and more.
Radio stations KLPX (96.1-FM) and KFMA (92.1-FM and 101.3-FM) are promoting the competition online and on air, and KLPX disc jockey Chita will be master of ceremonies.
