Fly fishing workshop set
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering "An Introduction to Fly Fishing for Adults."
Ti Piper from the agency will teach the workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 31 at the Lew Sorensen Community Center, 11100 E. Tanque Verde Road.
Instruction will consist of a two-hour class and a four-hour field trip to a local urban lake. All hands-on. No lectures.
The minimum number of students per class is 15; maximum number is 20. All equipment is supplied. If you have your own gear, you may bring it to class for technical evaluation. Do not buy equipment before the first class. Fishing license not required for the field trip. The class costs $10.
Registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation Center, 3500 W. River Road. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Skin cancer grant
The Bert W. Martin Foundation has provided a two-year, $400,000 gift to the Arizona Cancer Center, 1515 N. Campbell Ave., to establish a skin cancer institute.
The institute will promote better skin cancer treatment, research and prevention.
Robin Harris, associate professor of public health, will oversee the planning and start-up of the institute. Harris, whose research focuses on the epidemiology of skin cancer, has more that 10 years experience in skin-cancer prevention research.
Workshop focus is on meth help
A free workshop will offer strategies for people trying to help adults addicted to methamphetamine.
The session is designed to offer proven, low-cost and evidence-based practices.
The session is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Teen Challenge, 8464 N. Oracle Road.
Dennis Embry, a psychologist, will present "Simple Gifts," a series of strategies to help reduce relapse rates and health-related problems, as well as to decrease associated legal and work problems. The workshop is also open to professionals working in treatment and recovery.An R.S.V.P. is required. Those interested can call 388-4711.

The Limberlost Neighborhood Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Casita at Las Candelas, 401 E. Limberlost Drive.
