Preventing ID theft is presentation topic
A seminar on identity-theft prevention will be presented by officer Doug Marcotte of the Tucson Police Department at 11 a.m. today at the Armory Park Center, 220 S. Fifth Ave. No reservations are required.
On the agenda are recognizing, reporting and preventing identity theft.
Discussion to focus on ballot initiatives
The Metropolitan Education Commission will host a discussion on the 2006 ballot initiatives from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Main Library, lower-level meeting room, 101 N. Stone Ave.
Vaughn Croft of the Pima County superintendent of schools office will discuss the Joint Technological Education District, which would increase the number and types of vocational classes available to Pima County high school students.
'Transit solutions'
Partnering with the Direct Center for Independence Inc., Sun Tran offers "Transit Solutions," a free class designed to help people gain greater independence by learning how to ride the bus.
The next session will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at The Direct Center, 1023 N. Tyndall Ave.

El Rio group meeting
El Rio Neighborhood Association will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at El Rio Neighborhood Center, 1390 W. Speedway. On the agenda is a discussion of the ongoing improvements, including the Riverview Park project.
Armory Park Center member turning 100
One of Armory Park Center's first members will turn 100. To mark the birthday for Adelle Gribbell the center will throw her a birthday party.
Gribbell was one of the first people to receive a membership card from the Old Armory Center in 1962. The staff will have a cake in recognition of her century mark at noon Jan. 26 at the center, 250 S. Fifth Ave.
At 100, Gribbell is still active in Tai Chi, housework and yard work, and loves to travel.
Menlo Park celebrates
Menlo Park Neighborhood had plenty to celebrate Saturday. The Board of Supervisors office announced the completion of a number of capital improvements in the neighborhood, including the design and construction of a greatly needed "hawk" light on Grande Avenue north of Fresno Street.
The hawk, High Intensity Activated Crosswalk, displays a color signal when pushed by a pedestrian.
Money for the improvements in the neighborhood included $150,000 from Pima County Community Development and Neighborhood Conservation Department, $55,000 from Ward 1 Back to Basics and $38,000 from the Mayor's Office.
