A former University of Arizona student is one step closer to being the next "American Idol."

David Hernandez, a Glendale resident, impressed judges with his rendition of the Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" at the San Diego auditions and Stephen Stills' "Love the One You're With" in Hollywood.

Hernandez told Fox 11 this week that he attended the University of Arizona for several years and lived in Coronado Hall before moving on to Arizona State University.

So is he a Wildcat or a Sun Devil fan?

"I've always been a big fan of the Wildcat football team because a lot of people that I went to high school with went on to be Wildcats," he told reporter Deanna Morgan.

He then faced the camera and added, "I'll support the Wildcats if you support me."

Hernandez will now compete weekly for a chance at the top spot as one of the final 24.

Brooke White, a Mesa resident, is also in the running.

"American Idol" airs weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

As the 16th season of "Survivor" (Micronesia Fans vs. Favorites) lumbers on, a blast from the CBS reality show's past will be making a stop in Tucson today.

Ethan Zohn won the $1 million prize during the "Survivor: Africa" season in 2002.

The Massachusetts-born contestant returned to appear on "Survivor: All-Stars," where he he wasn't as fortunate.

These days, Zohn is putting time into his charity group, Grassroot Soccer, a nonprofit organization that trains Africa's professional soccer players to teach children about HIV/AIDS.

He will speak at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, 3800 E. River Road, about his efforts. The event is being presented by the JCC and B'nai Tzedek, the Jewish teen philanthropy program.

The talk begins at 7 p.m., and tickets are $10, with discounts available. Call 577-9393, Ext. 125.

The Pentagon Channel is now available to Cox digital cable subscribers in Tucson.

According to the channel's Web site, the Pentagon Channel is geared toward the 2.6 million members of the U.S. armed forces with programming that includes "military news, interviews with top Defense officials, Department of Defense news briefings and short stories about the work of the military."

The channel is owned by the Department of Defense. Watch it on Cox on Channel 122.

C-SPAN 3, a channel that offers more government-related live events and archived C-SPAN programming, is now also being offered on Cox on Channel 126.
